With reference to my application to carry on the

Agency of Joseph Wild & Co. of New York and also a General Import- Export & Commission Business I may mention that I was born of

British parents in 1883 in England and accompanied my parents to Hamburg in Germany, when about six years old. After leaving school I joined the office of F. M. Wolff a brother of Mr. Wolff of Messrs. Harland & Wolff Belfast, practically a branch establishment of the

latter firm and their Agents in Hamburg.

I established my nationality as British with the

German Authorities as far back as 1900 and enclose copy of my pasa-

-port issued by H. M. Consul in Hamburg.

In 1903 I joined Siemssen & Co. Hongkong on re-

commendation of Mr. Wolff, and have been with them ever since.

A few months before the war I decided to leave the

employ of Siemesen & Co. and can produce evidence to this effect.

The profits or losses that I incur in my business

are solely for my om account and Siemseen & Co. will not share in any profits out of my business during the war. I have no intention of rejoining Siemssen & Co. after the war.

In concluding I shall be pleased to receive a reply

to my application as soon as possible as I have gone in for elaborate preparations and commitments to carry on my business in Hongkong as well as in Canton, such as engaging offices, a Manager and staff for Canton, offices staff and godown accommodation in

Hongkong.

I have et,

(Sd.) John Mannere.
